Vodafone Cook Islands Announces Strategic IoT Partnership with To Tatou Vai

Monday 28 April 2025

For immediate Release

Vodafone Cook Islands is proud to announce a landmark partnership with To Tatou Vai (TTV) to deliver advanced Internet of Things (IoT) water metering solutions across Rarotonga.  The agreement marks a significant step towards enhancing water management and sustainability in the region.

Vodafone is providing TTV with a cutting-edge Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) IoT water metering service, enabling real-time data collection, remote monitoring, leak alerts, and more.

The service includes a secure web dashboard for data visualisation, Application Programming Interface (API) access for integration, and ongoing network and device maintenance—empowering TTV to enhance efficiency, reduce water wastage, and improve customer service.

"We are pleased to partner with TTV to bring cutting-edge IoT technology to the Cook Islands. Since 2023 our team has been working with TTV to bring this project to life, and our collaboration will continue with ongoing technical support to ensure accurate and timely water usage data,” said Phillip Henderson, CEO of Vodafone Cook Islands.

TTV CEO Apii Timoti said, “This metering solution is a game-changer for both TTV and our customers. By leveraging Vodafone Cook Islands’ IoT network, smart water meters provide real-time data, eliminating the need for manual readings and allowing for automatic features including remote monitoring, digital billing and leak detection. This means TTV can optimise water production and distribution to meet demand more efficiently. Over time customers will be able to monitor their consumption and make timely adjustments to manage usage and reduce wastage. The result is improved resource management, cost savings, and a more sustainable water supply.

This partnership also highlights the benefits of using existing infrastructure and expertise. Instead of investing in our own LoRaWAN technology and specialised training—leading to duplicate costs—TTV can utilise Vodafone Cook Islands' well-established system. This avoids unnecessary expenditure and ensures that cost savings are passed on to consumers through more stable water rates.”

"Ultimately, this allows TTV to focus on our core mission: delivering high-quality, reliable water services to Rarotonga", Timoti added.
